My most vivid memories of Barbie Vilter are of our six years as classmates together at Lotspeich School (now the lower school of the Seven Hills School) from 1952 to 1958.  She was always old for her age.  From the get go, she exhibited a keen sense of irony.  That made her a shrewd and insightful observer.  She was a stalwart.  She was dependable to such a degree that I tended to take her for granted.  She never tooted her own horn; I wish she had.  I already miss her departure.  RIP, Barbie.

We will miss you...you are only gone from our sight.

I have so many good memories of Barb. She always seemed a quiet and gentle person. I remember feeling welcome in her home. Her father was transferred to Europe so she missed her senior year at WHHS.  She attended her final year at a school in Switzerland. Needless to say, she missed everything at home. She had met her future husband before she travelled to Europe, and they were married not long after she returned to the US. I was in her wedding which was held in Michigan. We eventually lost contact, really going in very different directions at that time, me to school, and she to family life. I did see her once after that while she was on vacation near my home.  I was shocked to learn that her husband had passed away at a fairly young age. She was accompanied by her three daughters, all very beautiful. They seemed a lovely family.

Like Churchie, I was very fond of Barbie Watt Vilter; she and I were good friends while she was at Walnut Hills.  She was kind, fun and funny and had a very welcoming family.  I spend summers in northern Michigan near Leland where Barbie owned and operated a wonderful inn/restaurant called Riverside Inn.  Chip and I have had many wonderful dinners there, and several years back we visited Barbie in her home.  More recently, during the summers, I would visit Barbie in a facility called Effies in Leland and then in a hospital facility in Traverse City.  She was always happy to hear news about classmates and Cincinnati.  She was a really special friend.
