Hal and his mother lived down the street from me when I was at South Avondale elementary school, down around the bend of Glenwood Avenue he and I would spend our free time at the home of our good friend Mike Hopkins. Mike was the only one among us that did not have indoor plumbing but it's was a great house for kids to play in the woods behind his home. Kathy Gentelson lived two doors past Mike..Hal was a very bright student and dedicated to academic life.. We weren't close by the time we got to high school, but we still cherished our earlier history. He passed  at a far too early age.

One of those who lived up to the description "great guy" - Harold Silberman was the kind of person you could ask to hold your money and all your passwords for a year and not look at them and he would and then return everything. In fact his father also died young, he and his family carefully followed the Orthodox customs for these times, the love in that family was enormous.

He was in a few of my classes and P & S often meant we sat near each other.  His birthday was a day after mine so we always wished each other Happy Birthday.  So nice, pleasant, helpfull.
