Mary, what a treasured picture of your Mom and Rick! She still looks the same!!

Larry, CONGRATULATIONS! Wonderful news...now time for more Bridge?

Thanks to all for the nice words.  Sure feels better to have my favorite "Eagles" in my corner.  I've had a terrific run of seven seasons coaching a great group of students at the old alma mater.  I'm sure you'll all be rooting for Katie Hallinan to get past the Districts next Tuesday at Beavercreek GC, then make her last run at a state title at OSU's Grey course 10/20-21.

Ira: next up is hopefully more tournament bridge around the country and maybe a few golf trips as long as the bones hold up.

Laura: you are and always have been a true sweetheart and, like all our classmates, I'm happy that you are such a friend.  The team will be in good stead with Reid on the roster.

I hope, now that I'll be relieved of so much behind-the-scenes admin stuff, that I'll have more time to be a participant on this forum again.  Knowing this would be my last season, I really wanted to "get it right".  The golf program seems to be in a better place than seven years ago and I intend to be a very interested spectator as long as I can still walk the course.

As always - Go Eagles!!

Larry, congrats on a great run for you and the Eagles golf team.  A steady, calm hand is what these young golfers need.  Not always easy at their age.  We just finished watching our grandson compete in the Colorado State HS tournament as a freshman.  Quite proud.  And quite sure the genes came from his father, who is a 1 handicap!  Good luck at State!

Great job, Larry.  Now you can play golf, and of course your bridge too. Your teaching, support and encouragement will be definitely missed. Your spirit is a mainstay for the team. The next coach has big shoes to fill.

October 8, 2017,

Dear  Classmates,

I wanted to let you know about the series that I have been working on for much of the last year: THE STORY OF US WITH MORGAN FREEMAN for National Geographic.

The six one-hour episodes follow Morgan Freeman as he travels the globe in search of an answer to one fundamental question: What are the common forces that bind us togethe

SOME OF MY FAVORITE STORIES

*Darryl Davis, an African-American musician from Maryland, who has sought out members of the KKK to talk about race. From the “Us and Them” episode.

*Two remarkable people from Rwanda, a man and woman, Mariya and Filbert, who are now friends, living in a “reconciliation village.” They have become friends in spite of the fact that Filbert, a Hutu, was part of a group who killed Mariya’s husband and sons, who were Tutsis, in the Rwanda genocide in 1994. From “The Fight for Peace” show.

*Mabrouka Khedir, one of the first journalists to cover the uprisings in Tunisia that became the Arab Spring in 2011.  From “The Rebel Spirit” episode.

*Joshua Coombes, a hairdresser who gives haircuts to the homeless on the streets of London.  From the “The Power of Love” episode.

Premiere Episode Airs Weds, October 11 at 9pm

This is wonderful, Mary! I’ll be watching. I really enjoyed “The Story Of God” series. The subject matter is so needed these days, not just here but around the world. We need something positive to spark conversations on our our commonalities.  THANK YOU!

Mary Benjamin and Morgan Freeman!  Two of our favorite people.  I'll be watching as well, though I may have to catch the re-run of War and Peace - I'll be in Columbus for state golf.

Tina - not such big shoes to fill - I'm an 8 1/2 W. The tough shoes to fill will be Katie's.  I've been really fortunate to have coached such a fine young lady and athlete. She's also in line to be valedictorian, you know.

Thanks Larry, so sweet!

Support and appreciation from you all means so much! Tomorrow night's show "THE MARCH OF FREEDOM" is one of my favorites, a number of very powerful and poignant stories.

For those of you on the edge of your chairs, it's now official. The Katie and Klein combo is going back to state. Katie fired an even par 72 yesterday at Beavercreek GC to be runner-up in the district to conference-mate and best friend Alex Swayne of Kings HS. Come on up to Columbus at the OSU Grey Course on Oct 20-21 and watch our last run for the "roses". Go Katie and Lady Eagles!

I just watched “The Story of Us” trailer. Looks really good. Appears to draw parallels to experiences common to Americans and to diverse others, and also to illuminate those in rare extremities of existence. Looks really good!

Hi all and thanks to Paul and Helen!

I found out how you can watch THE STORY OF US WITH MORGAN FREEMAN on other platforms if you don't get the Nat Geo Channel and want to do that.

STORY OF US episodes will be available NEXT DAY after air for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and GooglePlay, and on-demand on NatGeoTV.com , FOX NOW on Apple TV and NatGeo TV apps.

Price of individual episodes on Amazon is $2.99.

Episodes will available on Hulu on the day after the season finale, 11/15. The season will be available at least until 10/12/18.

Also if you do get Nat Geo Channel be sure to check local listings. The national airtime is 9PM but for example in LA it's on 8-9PM and maybe in Cincy too, I'm not sure.

A belated congratulations to Larry and Mary...and anyone else that deserves it that I might have missed.  We've been somewhat preoccupied with some natural events here that have taken us by surprise.  We lived in Santa Rosa for thirty years, and many of our friends have lost everything.  The high school where I taught for five years is gone.  It's an ongoing situation, and even in Kensington (aka Berkeley), we're preparing to evacuate, something that seemed somewhat unimaginable a week ago.  I took a photograph of San Francisco this morning.  Our windows are all closed.  So are the schools.
