Philip,

EVERYONE in Cinti ! We got our drinking water from the Ohio River and everyone up river dumped their sewage in the river. We treated our sewage to about 98 percent and did the same.

Richard:  Hmmm.  That would account for some of the Indiana Hoosiers I met at Hanover College.  In Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from whence comes my wife, her mother told her not to go swimming in the Piscataqua River at low tide -- because of the "lump fish."

Up until about 1911-1913, the states of Michigan and Ohio had an ongoing legal battle in the U. S. courts over the boundary between the two states.

Ira - I wouldn’t miss the dedication of the Black Box Theater in Rick’s memory. I’m hoping my stepdaughter will be my “plus one”.

Sandy Steele (Bauman)

Hi Ira,

Yes, I will be there also, but my plus one is staying in Florida.... I am home for meetings this week, so am staying in Cincinnati until Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you.

Sandy

I, too, have my reservation in for the Black Box dedication. And, as usual, I will be sans "plus one".

Hi IRA: I am planning on being there and will have my Brother and Niece with me

Nancy Messer

Ira - I plan to be there.  My guest is my sister, Linda, who is a guidance counselor at WHHS.  She was a temporary member of the class of '64 at the dedication of the fund for Rick  (In reality she's from the class of '70 so is still an alum.)  She wants to see "Pippin" because one of her students has a starring role.

Gail Weintraub (Stern)

Ira, I plan to be at Friday night's events with my cousin. Presently, I am in Cincinnati following the unexpected death on Friday of my dear mother in law, Twink Carothers. She was the mother of my first late husband, David Stern, and also the step mother of our classmate, Tom Carothers. Tom and his wife, Annette, will also be in attendance Friday night. I look forward to sharing the Dedication of the Black Box Theatre, in Memory of Rick, with you all.

Laura Reid (Pease)

I will be there for the dedication; my plus one is also in FL.  I may bring my grandson, Reid, who is a 7th grader at Walnut Hills, if he doesn’t have too much Latin homework!  See you all there.

Certainly thinking of our dear classmate, Gail, who has suffered another loss.  Twink Carothers was a very generous lovely lady whom I knew because she was my neighbor.  Gail was devoted to her and they were quite close.

Our thoughts are with you Gail and also with Tom Carothers, Twink’s son who is also our classmate.

Gail, as you know, Twink and my mother were good friends.  My thoughts are with you, dear twin.

Just echo-ing our other classmates' condolences, Gail. I know very well how important Twink has been to you for all these years. I'm sad that you are having to suffer another loss.

Very sorry I won't make it Friday night. I almost made it but family matters here in LA with my in-laws delayed my coming to Cincy. I know it'll be wonderful and I would have loved to join you all in being together and honoring Rick in this lovely way.

Much love, Mary

Unable to catch you all at the ceremony.  I'm currently shuttling 3 grandkids to and from school and sports out in sunny California while mom and dad are hanging for a week in the Dominican Republic. I wrote a poem in honor of Rick that I hope the Alumni Office will share with you all. My best, Jon

Hope you have some warm moments tonight as we honor Rick. Something came up keeping Wendy and me in Louisville. I will think of you all and the friend who was always there for our class, Rick.

As you have noticed, I was unable to join all of you for the festivities. I am assuming that our class media person Ann will have video, photos, commentary for those not in attendance for the dedication.  This is such a great achievement for our class. Congratulations class of ‘64 for this accomplishment!

The dedication of the Black Box Theater at WHHS, last night, in honor of our Rick Steiner was an event I wished more of our Class could have experienced. Debbie Heldman, Executive Director of The WHHS Alumni Foundation, created an enjoyable and memorable evening of good food, camaraderie and entertainment. The production of Pippin was a triumph of young professionalism. The auditotium was filled to capacity and the acknowledgement by the Artistic Director of the support the Class of 64 to the performing arts drew a hearty applause. I had the pleasure of interacting with the cast at our after-play dessert reception and was told by the two leads (who are VERY TALENTED) that they came to WHHS because of the tremendous support to the performing arts. We should be very proud to have created and left our legacy to perpetually support the performing arts and honoring Rick with our support of The Class of 64 Performing Arts Fund Endowment! Thank you for making this venture so succesful. Your Ad Hoc Committee of Nelson Abanto, Sally Fox Korkin, Tine Preuninger Hisrich, Ira Goldberg, Gail Weintraub Stern and myself, will continue to provide guidance to our Fund and welcome your comments, suggestions and continued financial support to honor both Rick and our love for WHHS.

Gail read Jon Singer's poem in tribute to Rick.  It was great!  Thank you Jon!

I got a chance to speak with the new principal, John Chambers,  and vice principal (grades 10 and 11), Jerron Gray. Both are African Americans. It was wonderful to witness the progress made at our beloved school  in the 60 years since we were "effies".

The musical, "Pippin", was well performed.  There were excellent performances.  It brought a lot of nostalgia to me, having performed on that same stage, in choir, Peanuts and Walnuts.

I only got a chance to take a few pictures, but will post them on my profile.  Gail threatened to ban me from this web page if I posted the picture I took of her, but I'll take my chances.  If you don't hear from me again, you'll know why........cheeky
