Stephanie, here's all I could do: lighten the foreground, saturate the sky, get rid of the person in the lower left of the image, shrink the sun field a little by adding a few clouds...the challenge for this kind of image is that the tones go beyond what a sensor can detect; in other words, you have both overexposure (the sun field) and underexposure (the foreground), neither of which has detail...so this is the best I could do.  It's a lovely image, though.  I hope you've been enjoying your summer in SF.  Coming back next summer?

Laura what a fun picture- the warm smiles tell it all!  Thanks for posting.

Ann Shepard (Rueve)

JoAnn Dyson Dawson (center) is visiting from LA to help her 100 yr old father move from his house (where he lives alone) to an assisted living.  He's quite reluctant. I invited her to join The WHHS Dining Divas for our monthy brunch.  We really enjoyed catching up.  I am hoping to gather some other '64-ers together for her to see before she goes back to LA in a couple of weeks.

Also pictured Janice Gentry Smith '65, Carol Taylor '65, Sharon Williams '65, (JoAnn), Sarah Stotts Davis '65, (moi), Tess Wilfong '?.

What can you do with this Dave?  I only have a phone to take pictures with.  This is the Harvest Moon from last night.

Wow, Dave, what you did to my photo is amazing!  Thanks so much...and yes I'm coming back next summer (and for most of December and spring break).  I love San Francisco - we've been spending summers there for the last 18 years.

I look forward to seeing many more of your photos - I enjoy them enormously.

Best,

Stephanie

Okay, Ann!  Great picture, but are you "mooning" us?  (And does anyone know about the rabbit in the moon?  Maybe this should be this week's "Sursum ad Summum" Challenge.)  [P. S.:  What a nice picture of the WHHS "Dining Divas."  So great to see some of those folks again.]

Linda and Laura:  You two look so distinguished (and not at all older) in the recently posted photo.

Larry:  We will actually be back at Old Sturbridge Village on September 29; I worked with senior staff there when I was with the Smithsonian.  There are several good restaurants along Route 20 in Sturbridge; I'm pretty sure I remember the Amish-style one you mention -- I think we've eaten there several times when our boy was younger (though in the evening we usually ended up at the historic Publick House -- good bar).

Jeff Daum:  My son is also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association; I only made it to Life Scout, missing Eagle by two merit badges -- I was too involved in Walnut Hills theater at that point (probably Johnny Marks's fault!).  [P. S. Should we tell them about our 9th Grade hypnosis sessions in Biology study hall?  And has anybody heard anything about Steve Berman?]

Laura Pease shared this to her Facebook timeline.  I don't think she  will mind my sharing it with you on this day of memories:

All (including Gail):  Maybe this is something we should add to our Memories Index.  In addition to "Where were you, and what were you doing, when you heard that JFK had been shot?",  it would be:  "Where were you, and what were you doing -- and what did you think? -- when you heard the news about the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, the crash in Pennsylvania, etc.?  (Did it push you to be pro-war, or not?)"

Chuck Cole:  On your behalf, I'll post the other story about the Horatio Greenough statue of George Washington eventually.  In the meantime, I'll keep you in suspense for the moment (if you really care) about the surprising story of the two hemispherical maps on either side of the clock, pictured in my posted Profile picture of "Philip Spiess in his room in Clifton (1964)."  (And nobody has asked about my being a nationally known authority on the history of the bathroom.)

Phil,

When I count to three and snap my fingers you won't remember anything about our hypnosis sessions wink.   Re Steve Berman, I did visit with him a number of years ago in Portland and he and his family were doing well.  However he did not seem to have any desire to stay in touch.

OK Jeff - just to clarify for our classmates, I've never been to Pejeta, Africa.  This guy might be a very distant relative, though.  Note the streaks of gray hairs.

Larry, I got easily confused as a result of his WHHS pensive stare...

Jeff:  What hypnosis sessions are you talking about?   Never heard of them!  (Do you know one of my favorite movies, The Court Jester, starring Danny Kaye?  And how he's snapped in and out of hypnosis by the medieval witch?)  Which Portland was Steve Berman in, Maine or Oregon?  Any idea why he didn't want to keep in touch?

09/13/14 09:02 AM #972

Jeff Daum

Phil,

wink  I do remember that movie.  Danny Kaye was real comedic genius.  Steve and Holly were living in Portland Oregon.  As to the why he did not stay in touch, I don't really know.

thanks for your help Ann.

Phil and Jeff - regarding The Court Jester, a favorite movie of mine for 2 reasons.  First, Danny Kaye is my favorite person of all time.  Second, my uncle, actor Robert Middleton, was in the movie.  He played Sir Griswald  who had to joust with Danny Kaye in the "pellet with the poison" scene.  Love that movie.

Jeff, the totems are most impressive.  As an uncraftsman who has to check pdf files to distinguish between a screwdriver and a pair of wrenches (is that right?) I'm extremely impressed with your skills.

Mine are about as light as this, found this morning in Tilden Park.
