Maria Regina was my first serious girlfriend and greatly enriched my senior year at WHHS. Her years after leaving Cincinati were extremely difficult for her, as she ran afould of the military dictatorships in both Brazil and Argentina, and spent years innexile in Paris, before returning to Brazil when the military give up power. Through it all, we remained very close friends. I visted her often in both France and in Brazil. She came back to the US twice to vist (incuding our 20th class reunion. My daughter spent the summer in Brazil staying with Regna's family, and her neiuce and nephew each lived with my family while they were in high school. I was very fortunate to reciev a copy of ther book whne it was first published. In fact, I was so pleased that I actually struggled through it in Portuguese. Our families also maintained relationship, so much so that my father and his wife actually visited with Regina when she was living in Paris. It was a friendship that lasted almost 60 years, and I will sorely miss her. She was a forceful personality, committed to her principles, and ours was a friendship that was almost mystical in nature. .
