Margery Erhardt Schrader

After graduating from Walnut Hills, I continued my education both in the United States and England. I have a BA degree in Secondary Ed and Speech Therapy. I taught a year in Nebraska and upon receiving my English Teaching Certificate I resumed teaching (secondary) in England. I completed my MA in Counseling and Psychology in England and was a counselor working with young people there. During that time we traveled extensively. Returning to the States, I was a high school counselor for several years prior to having our two boys. Upon the birth of our second son we moved to Dallas in 1978 where we resided for 25 years. I served on many boards especially those dealing with children’s issues and along with 3 others, founded The Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the first of its kind in the US. Sixteen years ago we moved to Austin where both boys and their families are located.

In Dallas I worked in the interior design field prior to becoming a graphic designer where I have helped start-ups develop their identification and promotional materials as well as developing educational promotions for Texas and California school districts. This has allowed me time to remain active in my favorite charities, especially in the “Arts” where I currently give most of my time (Austin Opera and Symphony.) I continue to do web work, newsletters and yearbooks for my favorite organizations.

My interests and passions are West Highland White Terriers . . . I have bred and raised "Westies" for 30 plus years, boating on the surrounding lakes, and traveling. Hobbies include reading (several book clubs), gardening, art and graphic design.

I enjoyed all Walnut Hills had to offer though I admit to appreciating it more as I have matured - yes, gotten older! I had no idea of the phenomenal education I was receiving at the time. I enjoyed our Peanuts and playing Boopsie (though I admit I was too shy to play it properly.) I loved Mr. Gregory's classes and learned so much from him and my fellow classmates. And Mrs. Levy (Junior English) was my absolute fav teacher!!!!!
