Maybe we could all live together in a Skyline Chili Parlor.  (Or would our friendships turn chilly?)

Thank you Ann for your post. Most interesting. Since I live in Austin, several members of my church congregation live there and are most happy! A neat idea for the future...but not ready to give up our home yet, or hopefully not even the near future thankfully!

I am curious to know how many classmates turned out for our reunion.
Can any of the organizers tell me?

I wasn't there Dale but I heard from someone who was that it was 66.

Hey y'all, come on out to Kahala Nui Senior Living Community in Honolulu.  It's a great place!

Nelson, what an honor to attend this ceremony. I remember Bill Fee going to Dallas several times for reunions with people he served with.

The initial classmate RSVP number was 64! I remember thinking how stoked Rick would have been with that number. He loved things like that.

We had 64 both nights A few who had registered for Saturday night did not come, but I will leave their names off the post.

We had a wonderful reunion...Sandy and I had a great time planning it with only 1 blip, and we had plenty of help when we needed it.  We loved seeing all who came and missed all who couldn't make it.

I talked to Mike Bresnen yesterday and he "promised" the photos of Saturday night by the end of this week; when I receive them, I will pass them on for all to enjoy.

The one "blip" we had was with Skyline.  You may have seen Ann's earlier post about a new Skyline on Fountain Square which will be opening and will serve beer and wine.  The 4th Street Skyline (where we had our Friday night event in '23) had a liquor license, but it will now be "owned" by the Fountain Square Skyline.  A few weeks before this past reunion, we were told of the change, so we scrambled and moved our event to the Vine Street Skyline.  With the help of "the powers that be" we convinced them to serve good wine and decent beer because "this crowd is quite sophisticated, and more importantly the Walnut Hills class of 1964".  It all worked out, and Friday's event was a big success.

Thanks to all who attended!  Will be in touch soon with photos!

Have a safe and happy summer!

After reading the reunion posts I was disappointed that I didn't attend this one.  I enjoyed the 2023 reunion, especially hanging out and talking with Arnie, Jon, and Steve Collett, and giving belated thanks to Larry Klein who kindly hosted me.  Jadyne and I will go hiking with Gail on Sunday, and she'll fill me in.

That we've made it three more years is not lost on me, either, seeing that the In Memoriam page is swelling.  This 80 thing has occupied my thoughts more than any other birthday, and I assume that it's not lost on the rest of you, either.  I keep a blog on my website filled with the drivel that beats its own path to my brain, and I'm using this forum to share it just to see if this resonates with any of you.

I also missed the Four-Ways.  Here's John and Pete, proprietors of the Clifton Skyline ca. 1969

Dave, love your blog. I read somewhere that 4,000,000 of us will turn 80 this year.  I am happy to be among those who are not experiencing any major challenges that prevent me from enjoying my old age.  It is interesting that our priorities change with age. So far, on this journey, I have had parts removed, but not replaced.  I'll take the "you look good" status any day.

David, I missed you being there too! It was nice seeing everyone who attended. Our committee worked hard to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves.

Sounds like it was a good reunion. I'm wondering if y'all have video of the "talk around." Just curious. It seems like the mid-60's were a time when major changes of several types were taking place and we were at an age when we were both part of those changes and also not as involved as we could have been. And the assassinations of JFK, RFK, MLK - we didn't have any role to play but they must have had an effect. The Beatles and Stones and Dylan put some love and some soul into the music well-off white kids listened to but overall in retrospect nothing much happened.

There are veterans of a major war in the Class of 64. We all have experienced the beginnings of computing as a necessary part of learning and of living. Some set out on an inner journey and are still on it. Some have kids, grandchildren at this point, and some don't. There are enormous changes going on now and just like in the 60's, and to paraphrase the famous broadcaster Walter Cronkite "We Are There." He was said to be the most trusted man and CBS was the most trusted network. Changes - it appears that the world is constantly changing.

Paul, we had a great reunion and missed you and all those who couldn't be there.  We did not tape the talkaround, but the comments were very heartfelt (and funny), as we reach our 80s.  We remembered those we have lost and recalled our memories of being together.

Photos of the reunion will appear soon!!

Glad to read and see the pictures from our "80th B-day" reunion.  Sorry to have missed it and the chance to catch up.  We are on a trip exploring the West Coast of South Africa where we celebrated my 80th.  The countries along the West Coast are so different in culture, fauna and flora compared to our prior trips through Africa.

A couple of images:  These dancers in Dakar, Senegal welcomed us:

These are from Cotonou, Benin.  The men fish everyday (the first image he is checking his nets) and the women then take the fish to market to trade for food and goods.  Their village is Ganvie Village with each house on stilts and access only by the local canoes.

A very enthusiastic greeting party:

Cheers all!

Jeff

Thank you, Jeff, for your intriguing photos! I, too, am sorry to have missed. We had planned our trip to attend the reunion and include some family in TN and NC. Our son and Laura, our DIL, who just moved there from Austin, were a critical part and since he had just received a top promotion in his company, he had to be away the following week so we changed plans and went to TN first and then on to  NC to visit my precious sister (Class of “67) and her husband. It is wonderful  to see the photos!

Jeff, thanks for posting the pictures from countries in west Africa.  Due to the transatlantic slave trade, I share DNA with some of the people in your photos from Benin and Senegal. As a matter if fact, I share DNA with a lot of other countries too.  Every continent except Asia. wink

Margery, thank you!  I'm pleased you enjoyed the images.  As we get up in years, spending time with family- especially when not living in the same town is so important.  Shortly after we get back we will be leaving for a family reunion of our West and East Coast families.

Ann, you are most welcome.  We are learning a lot more about the slave trade and its impact on this trip.  In fact, Ponte Verde where we are currently, was basically established using slaves from other parts of Africa.  We also visited a couple of other countries on your DNA link- the Ivory Coast and Ghana, this trip.

Cheers,

Jeff

The 80th Birthday Bash was AWESOME!!

As acknowledged in the four previous posts, I was successful in remembering how to upload our reunion photos, resize them, and organize the groupings. Just so none of you will worry, I was not up into the wee hours of the morning on this.  It took about 3 hours while the Reds were getting hammered by the Pirates Sunday afternoon.

Seeing so many classmates at this 80th B'day reunion was a real blast for me.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again at "85"!  Hopefully, I'll still remember how to post more photos.

Sursum ad summum

Very sorry to have missed the gathering. Thanks for posting the photos.  Great to look at all those faces. Seems like Benjamin and Osher are still joined across their old driveway.
