Jerry,

Yes, I love a science fair. I am actually judging one next Monday at George Mason University. Speaking of Science, I think there is a science rally on April 22.  I hope everyone joins in.

Teedee,

Yep, we found your updates on your page. So now we are all happy that you have received everyone's birthday wishes for you.

In jumping off high buildings, there is obviously always a wrist factor, particularly when you so easily choose to cast yourself on the ground; but that's another storey.  Science Rules!  (Or maybe there should be science rules!  Wouldn't that be fair?)

Science is so 2010. No one fares well at a science fair except for fair haired people. I think living in a world where it's what you feel that counts, matters and explains things is the way to go. I'm also enamored of alternative facts and separating fake news from faker news. Lastly I am a big fan of tweating because 140 characters are all any real person needs to handle complex subject matters. Lastly I meant to write this on April 1st.

Perhaps too many folks confuse science with seance these days.  Reading tea leaves is only slightly less reliable than a pie chart.

Au contraire, Larry!  The British read the tea leaves in Boston Harbor in 1773 and knew there was trouble brewing!  [P.S.:  Many reliable people think pie goes well with tea.]  [P.P.S.:  True fact, Henry (or "Hank," as "alternate facts" would have it):  Two weeks ago, to my astonishment, I actually found the word "bigly," supposedly erroneously made up by Donald Trump, in a Victorian story I was reading.]

Hello all,

I just had a great visit from Dale Gieringer. We had a great conversation about all the Cincinnati Friends, and the reunions and all the great friends from WHHS.

Also great conversations about public policy, Congressional actions, science policy, and many other important topics. Please remember Science Day is coming April 22.  As it says on the Tee Shirt "In Science we trust".

PS. I see that Joan Baez has written a new song.

I do think Phil should be up for a top flight groaner award. After all like so many of our current commentators on the state of the nation, it can be said that he is a truly able to take any subject matter and find a way to punned it.

"...find a way to punned it."

I see what you did there, Henry.

For those who missed it, Steve Sanger was interviewed this morning on CNBC. Excellent discussion on some of the problems and solutions in the banking biz, among others. WHHS'64 in the news yet again!

...and on his birthday to boot.  Happy Birthday Steve!

Ahoy, Henry!  So, does that make me a pun-dit?  Or, as so many of our pundits are, am I merely a windbag?  I winder about that; but I will honestly attest -- as many of you may have guessed -- that when I write these epistles late at night, I truly am often half in the bag.

Thanks Larry.  I just tried to get the CNBC interview with Steve Sanger online and was unable to do so....did anyone have better luck than I did?

Phil, simple solution, just use the other half of the bag. Your missives will thank you and Syria will be happy that you aren't lobbing missiles.

The Berkeley "Trump Rally" last Saturday has received significant national attention, and the Berkeley Police are under fire for their "hands-off" approach to the violence.  This was not a political rally at all, but a testosterone-fueled hatefest between two fringe groups, the alt-right and the far left.  I spent a half hour or so photographing faces before leaving, knowing that the confrontations would inevitably lead to violence.  Here is a link to those images:

It appears that you captured the essence of the feelings there David.  Thanks for sharing.

Bearing in mind that the freedoms of expression and assembly are sacrosanct in our constitutional democracy, the fact remains that our politics, as David chronicles, can and often do devolve into hatefests.  That's scary and sad.

Great pictures, David. Thanks for these...

David -- sharply portrayed by the camera and the pen.  Well done!

On another topic, does anyone remember Laurilyn (Lolly) Harris?  I worked on a Walnuts script with her, and was crazy about her, even though she was an older and much more sophisticated woman (Class of '62).  There's an article in this week's Chronicle of Higher Education that features her, about what has happened in the 6 years since Washington State U. abruptly shut down the department she chaired.  She's now retired and back in Cincinnati.

I wonder if their parents are proud or appalled. Doesn't look like critical thinking and problem solving techniques need apply. I am not naive enough to have overlooked the latent aggressiveness and hate formula haunting this country. But seriously, is this really where our country is headed or a mere aberration? As the anniversary Rodney King's beating passes 25 years, "can't we all just get along?"

I'm sorry to report that the new football coach at Walnut Hills has just been dismissed as he had been caught trying to recruit players which is apparently against the rules. The horror of it!. In our day we were just glad to win a couple of games here and there. Walnut Hills' sports has in recent years had a couple of glory moments which may have spurred an apetite for more. Lesson learned, if you are going to cheat, do it effectively. Learn from the best the Russians and Trump.
